Its crucial to get all the correct information as well as your personality across in your CV to enable you to stand out from the crowd.

Below is a step by step guide of what a successful CV should contain.

Follow these simple steps and the rest is up to you.

Personal Information

This should state, name, address and contact details, along with availability.

Profile/objective

Include a clear and concise career objective, focusing on your sector experience, skill set and career achievements. State what you are now looking for in terms of: position, company, culture, location and hours.

Career history

Start with your current or most recent position first, clearly stating the company name, position held, responsibilities and dates of employment (months and years) as well as reasons for leaving.  Bullet points are the most effective way of listing this information.

Education & Professional qualifications

List your most recent first and categorise into the following: -
  • Further education
  • Higher and post graduate qualifications
  • Qualifications gained at school
  • Remembering to put dates achieved
Skills

The simplest way to communicate this information would be to use bullet points.
  • Audio Typing
  • Advanced in Mircosoft Office
Hobbies and Interests

This gives an idea of your personality and could add a little humour to the CV.

References

It is crucial that you include the contact details of two references.
